Why I am Seeking Reelection
I have dedicated myself to the field of education, serving as a teacher in Clay County Schools for 19 years and as a School Board member for the last 2.5 years. I began my teaching career in 2003 after obtaining a master’s degree in special education, complemented by a certificate in Educational Leadership. I am a fervent advocate for student safety, Exceptional Student Education, parental rights, and the retention of skilled teachers, while also recognizing the importance of offering quality career and technical education pathways for students.
As a lifelong learner, I am committed to continuous professional growth and aim to enhance student success through highly effective policies that prioritize academic excellence. In my role as a school board member, I achieved Master Board Certification through the Florida School Boards Association (FSBA) and completed the Master School Board training with my fellow board members, while also participating in the FSBA Advocacy and Policy Committees. Additionally, I take pride in my community involvement as a member of the newly established Clay County School Board Internal Audit Committee and the Clay County Value Adjustment Board.
During my initial term, I played a crucial role in several significant decisions, including the transition of school safety responsibilities from the school board police to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. I also spearheaded the development of a library media policy aimed at addressing inappropriate materials, which led to the removal of nearly 500 titles from school circulation. Furthermore, I advocated for greater transparency in the use of taxpayer funds by securing an internal auditing firm that reports directly to the Clay County School Board.
Residing on a small farm in Middleburg with my husband John, a 24-year veteran of the United States Army, I have been married for 42 years and is the proud mother of three Ridgeview High School graduates. Additionally, my two granddaughters are currently enrolled in Clay County Schools. One of my greatest joys as a mother is seeing my daughter become a master teacher, following in my footsteps.
I’m seeking reelection to continue to:
Empower Students
To empower students, it is essential to establish policies that prioritize their safety within the school environment, foster academic excellence, and maintain high expectations. This approach will enable students to cultivate critical thinking and problem-solving skills, equipping them to tackle the challenges they will face in the real world.
Empower Parents
To empower parents, it is essential to recognize their rights as vital stakeholders, promote open communication between schools and families, and motivate parents to engage actively in their children's education. When parents participate in their children's learning experiences, it not only enhances academic performance but also fosters a lifelong love for learning.
Empower Teachers
To empower teachers, we must return to the fundamental principles of education and cultivate environments that not only recognize their value but also grant them the freedom to make choices regarding their teaching methods and professional growth. Ensuring uninterrupted instructional time, providing high-quality resources, offering leadership opportunities, and actively involving teachers in the decision-making process, will create exceptional learning environments that ultimately benefit students.
I look forward to earning your vote, so I may continue to serve on the Clay County School Board.
